Happy Fourth of July! We wish all our friends and supporters and other members of The Freedom Story family a wonderful and safe celebration of American Independence! We hope you are all enjoying BBQs, fireworks, and a fun and relaxing holiday spent with loved ones.
While most of the time we’re focused on helping children on the other side of the globe, we’re also very aware–as we know you are too–that there are many issues close to home that need attention as well. If you’re looking for another way to infuse your holiday with a more serious reflection to celebrate and advance freedom, here are some ideas:
- Learn more. Read more and expose yourself to more of the thoughts and perspectives of those still fighting for inclusion, respect, and to be productive contributors to our nation and global society.
- Donate to organizations and other forms of collective action to help those who are enslaved, used and abused, or otherwise oppressed.
- Volunteer and perform acts of service. Do you have a skill or knowledge set? How can you use that in service of others who might need it?
Or simply, take a moment for gratitude, to give thanks for the sacrifices made for our freedoms, our independence, and on the greater path to liberation.
“The health of a democratic society may be measured by the quality of functions performed by private citizens.”
― Alexis de Tocqueville, Democracy in America
Have a great Fourth of July weekend!
